In a ceremony just prior to kickoff, Councilman Miller will present the Coyotes with a trophy for being “the champion of the people,” and will address the team privately in their locker room “for their tenacity, honor and integrity” in the Coachella Valley community. “Besides being winners on and off the field, the Coyotes are great citizens as well,” Mr. Miller said. “The Coachella Valley has waited a long-time for a winning football team.” The barnstorming Coyotes, 2-0, are a truly Southern California team. In the past year, they have played — and won — in San Diego, Riverside and Los Angeles counties. The team plays Saturday at 7 p.m. at Desert Christian Academy, their third SoCal venue this season. In the past 12 months, the team is 12-2 and was the 2012 national champion runner-up. “We fight where we’re told, and we win where we fight,” says Coyote president and National Coach of the Year J. David Miller (no relation). “Councilman Miller has been a key ally and vocal supporter of our organization. We will humbly continue to earn the respect of our entire desert community.” Mr. Miller is an Ontario native and has been a City Councilman since 2008. He is currently assigned to Indio’s Public Financing Authority and is on the executive committee for the League of California Cities. Among his numerous other appointments, he serves as executive director of the First Tee Program of the Coachella Valley and is a certified member of the Golf Course Superintendents of America.
