(PALM SPRINGS) – Renowned surgeon and SoCal Coyotes team physician Dr. Ben S. Wehrli will be recognized by Angel Light Academy (ALA) for his “proven excellence in community leadership and service” at the 13th Annual Above & Beyond Awards on April 30 at the Indian Wells Golf & Country Club.

Dr. Wehrli, founder of Coachella Valley Foot and Ankle Institute, is the second consecutive Coyote executive to receive this prestigious award, which was established in 2009 as a grass-roots recognition program for the “doers” of the Coachella Valley.

According to ALA’s Leadership & Training and Institute, Dr. Wehrli earned his place on the ‘Class of 2022’ for consistently going  ‘Above and Beyond’ – not only in his thriving medical practice, but also through his life-changing community efforts.

‘Not All Heroes Wear Capes’

“Dr. Wehrli has brought healing, comfort and hope to thousands of patients,” said Coyotes team president and head coach J David Miller. “But few people know about the countless thousands who this great man has helped globally through his medical missions, each year through his church, and every day in our non-profit organization.

“All heroes don’t wear capes,” Coach Miller added. “Sometimes they wear scrubs.”

With Refuge International, Dr. Wehrli has made many trips around the world to serve vulnerable communities, improving the health, wellness, and quality of life of those populations most in need. As a mentor, he frequently counsels youth of all ages at his office, his church and through his non-profit endeavors.

Dr. Wehrli has served the SoCal Coyotes since 2013, and is currently Chief Medical Officer of Coachella Sports & Entertainment Stadium Authority (CSESA). He will join Coach Miller (Class of 2021) among distinguished Angel Light Academy alumni.
